Pregnancy is a beautiful transformation of a woman into becoming a mother. That transformation isn’t always easy, however. Acupuncture and holistic medicine have been used for generations to provide pregnant women with safe, effective treatment for the ailments commonly experienced during pregnancy. We use a variety of techniques to help reduce pain and swelling, ease nausea and vomiting, and reduce pregnancy fatigue.
Megan Joyce and her team work closely with midwives, doulas, OBGyns and other birth professionals to support women as they transition towards their birthing time. Using a combination of acupuncture, moxibustion, and exercises, we can successfully encourage breech babies to move to optimal positioning for labor. At 36 weeks, we begin weekly labor preparation treatments which gently encourage softening of the cervix and stimulate the natural hormonal cascade of birth. This labor preparation protocol has been shown to reduce past date births, as well as reduce the amount of time in labor. When mommas have gone past their guess dates (aka due dates), acupuncture protocols can be used to commence labor.
The postpartum period is a special time of bonding between the new parents and baby. This is also a vulnerable time as mothers heal from birth, learn to breastfeed, and cope with the demands of a new baby. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are wonderful treatments for encouraging healing, reducing postpartum depression and anxiety, and supporting healthy lactation.
